Helena came to Canada at the age of nine and two years later she became a Christian.

She was engaged in office work before studying at TBC. Her willingness and ability proved of great value to the Broadcast Committee and the Student Cabinet

The inscription on Helena’s alumna of the year award reads “Faithful in all things,” which sums up her many years of service. Her longest periods of ministry were among Finnish-speaking people as a missionary and then as a pastor in the American Midwest.

She and her husband Toivo also had a radio ministry.

Later in life, she continued to minister in nursing homes and seniors complexes in Chisholm, Minnesota.
