Douglas Stoute
OBC (1971)
At the time Douglas received his Distinguished Alumni Award he was the Dean of Toronto and the Rector of the downtown Cathedral Church of St. James. During the 18 years that he served in the Anglican Church of Canada as Assistant Curate, Incumbent and Rector, he made very significant contributions as a member of the General Synod and as a member or chair of various committees of the Diocese of Toronto. Over the years, he gave key leadership as a board member to a number of private colleges as well as serving as a chaplain to the Metropolitan Police Force.
Douglas is the author of “An Anglican understanding of ministry and church polity in the 16th century,” published in 1986.
He graduated from OBC with three awards: the J.B. Rhodes Memorial Award in Theology, the Ex-Rabbi Henry Bregman Memorial Award for highest academic standing in Introductory Hebrew, and Delta Epsilon Chi: the Honour Society of the Accrediting Association of Bible Colleges.
