Beth Healey
Tyndale (BA 2015)
Beth and Spencer, who studied Psychology, and Biblical Studies and Theology, respectively, are alumni who value the grounding they received at Tyndale. Both went on to higher education and careers in Illinois.
Beth earned an MSW at Aurora University in 2018, and found a job at Naomi’s House, a Christian organization that provides a safe space for women rescued from human trafficking, where they can heal and encounter God’s love and comfort.
“My career field [in social work] is not necessarily Christian,” she said. “One of the biggest things for me is that my faith still needs to be an essential part of what I do and who I am. It also is my responsibility to make sure I’m spending time studying my faith, what I believe, and why it informs how I do my job. This gives me that added edge.”
Because of this mindset, she is able to offer to her clients more than just the skillset of a counsellor. “I feel that Tyndale gave me some of the tools and questions to prompt me to look deeper into my faith, not just my career.”
Spencer earned two degrees from Wheaton College: MA History of Christianity, 2017, and MA Biblical Exegesis, 2018), As a scholar, he realizes the potential a position in academia has in influencing the next generation, particularly as a professor.
Spencer came to Tyndale first, seeking to learn from those who had thoroughly examined the Bible. He found professors who encouraged thoughtful discussion while interpreting Scripture in its historical context.
“My time [at Tyndale] is best described as helping me clarify the questions that I only perceived in an unformed state,” he said. “I knew there was more to the Christian faith than just what I had been hearing at church, but I couldn’t exactly articulate that” before studying at Tyndale.
