TBC (1926)

Usually our Alumnus of the Year is one who has been involved in missions, ministry or some other area of full-time Christian work. But not all of our alumni are so engaged.

Reuben had a unique experience as a professional glass blower and, in one case, he received the only diploma granted to a foreigner, designating him as a "meester glasblazer" (master glassblower). In 1970, the University of Toronto wrote a full-page write-up of his skills and contributions to science. In 1977, Pauline McGibbon, the Lieutenant Governor, gave him a citation for long-term faithful service at the University and noted that he had never had a day off for sick leave in 55 years.

But he did something even more important than glassblowing. He visited hospitals to bring comfort; carried on a prolific missionary correspondence; and witnessed for Christ wherever he was.
