Roy attended the London Bible Institute and Theological Seminary (now Tyndale), graduating in 1958 with a Bachelor of Theology. He continued his education at Dallas Theological Seminary, graduating with a ThM in 1962 and a ThD in 1965. From 1964-70, he taught at Southeastern Bible College in Birmingham, Alabama, and was Dean of Faculty there for three years.
In 1970, he returned to Canada to teach at Ontario Bible College (now Tyndale), and served as Academic Dean from 1973-76. When the Seminary was formed in 1976, he became its first Academic Dean. He continued to teach New Testament until 2001, when he was made Professor Emeritus, although he continued to teach in a part-time capacity.
Throughout his life, Roy has balanced his academic career with a deep commitment to the local and global church. He has taught and ministered in a number of countries around the world, including Kenya, Colombia, France and India.
