Alex Deans
TBC (BRE 1939)
Alex graduated from TBC’s Evening School in 1939, then entered its day classes in 1942, but Second World War service intervened and, for the next three years, he was overseas, ultimately earning the rank of Captain in the Queen’s Own Rifles.
Due to his wounds, this good soldier of Jesus Christ found himself in a hospital, and for a long time there was little hope of complete recovery.
On his discharge from the Army and from his long-drawn-out medical battle, he again enrolled and graduated from TBC in 1949. Twenty five years later, he earned a BRE degree, graduating in 1974.
In between studies, and concurrent with them, Alex served TBC from 1956 to 1960 as Field Secretary.
In 1960, he was appointed Assistant Secretary of the Board of Stewardship and Budget of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. In 1974 he became Associate Secretary of the Board of Congregational Life, counselling and training leaders at Presbytery and congregational levels.
