Tyndale University celebrates Dr. Doug Hayhoe, who has been awarded the Science Teachers’ Association of Ontario (STAO) Emeritus Award this month.
This award is reserved for a STAO/APSO member upon retirement. The STAO/APSO Emeritus Award recognizes exemplary leadership and excellence in the teaching of science over a career.
Dr. Hayhoe has shown exemplary leadership throughout his career, first in the Toronto District School Board as the Curriculum Coordinator for Science and Technology, and then as a Science Professor in the Faculty of Education at Tyndale University. He has also been a speaker at science conferences and has published significant science research.
“Doug’s research highlights the importance of science education for inspiring stewardship of the earth, and even caring for the global poor,” says Heather Birch, Director of the Bachelor of Education Program, Tyndale. “For Doug, the pursuit of science is an act of worship and thankfulness to God for His amazing creation.”
Dr. Hayhoe has inspired countless numbers of science educators with his hands-on, interactive approach to science with an emphasis on inquiry and STEM.
He has equipped students with confidence in their ability to inspire science learners. Dr. Hayhoe’s extensive knowledge of science content and his excellent communication skill have been a tremendous contribution to science education in Ontario.
