Launched in January 2000, Christian Careers Canada (CCC) was designed to help build bridges between people looking for positions and the employers offering them.
Andy Smith, Tyndale University’s Manager, Website Strategy & Development, says, “It started as a pet project on the side for me, along with all the other work, but it soon became something that took on a life of its own.”
When CCC started out, the site would host a couple of dozen posts at a time. It now averages 250 to 350 active posts, with new posts being added most weekdays. Google Analytics reports more than 50,000 visitors viewed 575,000 CCC pages over the last year.
In the beginning, CCC was a feature on the alumni section of Tyndale University’s main website, where career opportunities were posted as a way for students and alumni graduates to find employment opportunities in their fields of interest. “But it became clear very quickly that this needed to be more robust, and that’s when we started thinking about making it a separate website and service,” he says.
Keeping up with technology is important for CCC.
“I think a lot of people currently look for jobs using online services like Christian Careers Canada on their smart phones,” Smith says.” Making sure that our website is functional on a phone, as well as on a computer, is very important. We made major changes to the website in 2017, to make sure that that was the case.”
However, more upgrades are in CCC’s future, to bring the site up to current security standards and to add functionality.
“We would appreciate people’s help with that,” he says. “There have been many employers who have helped us through donations over the years, to be able to make sure that this site will continue to run as a free service for both job seekers and employers.”
“The slogan that we use at Christian Careers Canada is ‘Bridging People and Possibilities,’” Smith says, “and so often we just provide that bridge, but undergirding that bridge for the past 25 years are three pillars:
“For job seekers, it is a focused source for ministry-based career opportunities.
“For employers, it provides a well-respected place to post career opportunities to a very targeted audience. It is especially helpful for smaller organizations or churches that need to hire but may not have a large budget to advertise the position elsewhere. While most employers are faith-based ministries or churches, the site is often used for employers of other business types who would like to attract faith-based employees to work with them.
“For Tyndale, the site clearly identifies the University as the operator of the service. This is great for ongoing brand awareness of Tyndale throughout the Canadian Christian community.”
In the spirit of this milestone birthday, Steve Adams of Adams and Co., a career consultant for ministries, offered these thoughts: “We have been very pleased to use CCC for several years as an excellent tool to make our staffing opportunities known. The trusted connection to Tyndale and its strong reach across the country have proved very helpful. Count us in as a continuing client!”
