Biography
Claudette began her public service as the Director of Christian Education and Music in a local church in an underserved area in Toronto - developing and overseeing programs and curriculum to meet the needs of all ages of members in the community and designing and leading children and adult choirs that platformed their musical talents.
Following these 4 years, Claudette continued her public service as an elementary school educator in the Toronto District School Board. This 28-year “second” career included many experiences, first as a teacher of music and dramatic arts in a junior high school and then as a literacy enrichment homeroom teacher in a middle school. Her literacy expertise later took her outside the classroom for 3 years as an instructional leader – coaching beginning teachers, conducting professional development for teachers and school administrators, working with her colleagues in the creation of instructional resources, and partnering with principals in their school improvement leadership through the implementation of action plans to effect literacy change in their schools.
With the depth and breadth of knowledge and experiences gained, Claudette found herself yearning to be back in the school context. As a very student-centred leader led by a strong and unwavering belief that all children must have equitable opportunities and the right tools they need to be the best they can be, Claudette began her 15 year service as a vice-principal and then as a principal - partnering with teachers, parents, and communities in the development of young lives – always driven her belief.
Claudette retired from public education in 2018; however, her drive for equitable opportunities and rich, inclusive learning experiences for all students, continues in her role as Faculty Advisor in the Bachelor of Education Program - providing support and mentorship to Tyndale’s teacher candidates as they prepare to become effective classroom teachers.
