Rev. Benjamin Porter (MDiv, 2009)
Distinguished Alumni National Impact Award, 2022
Benjamin graduated from Tyndale Seminary with a focus on counselling. His accomplishments include starting a family therapy practice in Toronto, serving as an Executive Pastor at Willowdale Baptist Church, co-founding Love is Moving, Canada’s only national Christian youth television, online and magazine series in association with Media Voice Generation and the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada.
“When God opened the door for me to go to Tyndale Seminary to study counselling, that meant giving up, that meant sacrifice, that meant I had to leave my home, my family in New Brunswick, my friends, a lifestyle that I was used to,” said Benjamin. “But it also meant that I had to leave my best friend and my future wife, Christina.
“What could have broken our relationship in those couple of years that I was here, studying in the MDiv program, actually made us stronger.” After he and Christina were married a few years later, Benjamin graduated from Tyndale and had a counselling practice in Toronto. It was there that he noticed that a remarkable number of young adults and those that were married were struggling with the question, “What is love?”
The journey to seek answers to this question led to the creation of Love is Moving.
“God is love, and God is moving through His people in His church.”
