Japan Earthquake Update: Prayer and Donation Requests

Thursday, March 17, 2011

Only one week ago, a massive 9.0 earthquake shook and ravaged the nation of Japan with many casualties and leaving thousands homeless, without loved ones, and in a drastic state of fear. Although the physical effects can only be understood by those who were there, the emotional and spiritual impact of this horrific event has spread worldwide. For this reason, the Tyndale community invites everyone to pray for survivors, authorities and missionaries who are left to deal with the aftermath.

Overseas Missionary Fellowship (OMF) missionaries Martin and Ruth Ghent have been living and working in Japan for nearly 25 years. They have been missionary partners with Tyndale for the last 3 years, helping facilitate outreach through music and worship with Tyndale students. Dave Roberts, Tyndale Missions Mentor is in regular contact with them. The Ghent’s have sent a brief compilation of prayer requests for the Japanese nation and peoples. Please pray:

  • For opportunities to share the truth and love with people in need.
  • For the comfort of the Spirit in the wake of loss.
  • For protection over those seeking to serve.
  • For understanding and ability for those managing the nuclear power plant breakdowns.
  • That the church would see and understand the spiritual poverty of Japan and respond with prayer and workers for the harvest field.
  • That brothers and sisters in Christ would steward well their blessings, and their responsibility as neighbours, their calling in Christ

At the most recent Tyndale community chapel service, Dave Roberts lead students, staff and faculty to pray collectively for these needs as well as mentioning the need to pray for the Tyndale Japan mission’s team who have hopes of traveling for the 4th year in a row to share the message of Christ’s love this May.

To follow the news of what is happening with OMF and the Ghent family, you can read their recent updates on their blog: http://tsugaruchurch.blogspot.com.

OMF is one of the few agencies able to reach the people in Sendai, as well as north of Sendai, where many organizations have yet to make it. They do need your financial support. If you would like to donate to OMF’s efforts, learn more on their website, http://www.omf.ca.

A variety of missionaries from various denominations working in Japan have networked together to form Christian Relief, Assistance, Support, and Hope (CRASH), an organization dedicated to disaster relief in Japan and the World. If you would like to follow their work or donate, visit their website, http://www.crashjapan.com.

OMF Also released a call to prayer for Japan. Please read and pray during this hard time for the Japanese People.
