Ruth Whitt Fund Honours Years of Service

Friday, June 8, 2012

Last week, a retirement party and farewell for Ruth Whitt was held where The Ruth Whitt Professional Development and Refreshment Fund was announced to honour her nearly seventeen years of faithful service to Tyndale.

“She worked day and night and I don’t think people realize how much time she put into this place,” says President Dr. Gary Nelson. “I want to thank her for all that she did.” This new fund will ensure that the countless hours of Ruth’s dedicated service to Tyndale will not be forgotten as she looks forward to spending more time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Ruth Whitt began her tenure as Executive Assistant to the President of Tyndale in August 1995. At the time, the school was facing financial difficulties and restructuring. Her work, alongside President Emeritus, Dr. Brian Stiller and many others, was instrumental in ensuring the survival and continued mission of Tyndale.

“I think Ruth was the glue,” says Geoffrey Moore, Honorary Governor of Tyndale’s Board of Governors. “There were all sorts of people that came to our rescue in 1995 when we got into some financial difficulty. Ruth was among those that came and for the next 15 years she held everybody together, communicated with everybody, and she’s hugely competent. When you gave Ruth an assignment you knew it was going to be done and you never worried about it.”

Ruth also assisted in the search for a new president when Dr. Stiller took on his new role as Global Ambassador for the World Evangelical Alliance. Once Dr. Gary Nelson was chosen as Tyndale’s President, she aided in his transition and helped the school prepare for the move to the Bayview Campus.

Emulating the support, encouragement, and inspiration that she provided to many people at Tyndale, this new fund will give staff the opportunity for rest, refreshment, and to increase knowledge in their fields of expertise.
