The Reading, Part 1 (Focus on Foundational Literacy Skills) Additional Qualifications course enables candidates to deepen their professional practice through a focus on curriculum knowledge, pedagogical strategies, and the learning environment. The course explores current theories, research, and instructional practices for teaching readers and developing a comprehensive literacy program that meets the needs of all students. Yvonne Messenger is a teacher-researcher with over twenty years of teaching and leadership experience in public education in Canada. Certified to teach Kindergarten to Grade 10, most of her classroom teaching experience has been in the Early Years (K to Grade 3), in Ontario and Nova Scotia.
