Introducing the Tyndale Guardians
Tyndale launches new athletic brand and competitive sports program
Tyndale University College & Seminary Athletics has launched a new competitive sports program and an athletic brand name and logo: the Tyndale Guardians. The new brand was developed to raise the profile of the Athletics program as the university expands its competitive athletic offerings beyond intramural sports and fitness programs.
The name Guardians and the logo was developed in collaboration with a focus group of students, alumni, faculty and staff. The name Guardians was chosen unanimously. It was chosen to reflect the closing line of the Canadian national anthem, “We stand on guard for thee,” as well as multiple biblical references, such as “Keep hold of instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life” (Proverbs 4:13). The brand image incorporates a shield, a sword, a “G” for Guardians and a “T” for Tyndale; it was designed by Brandon Olsen, a Tyndale alum.
The launch of the new athletic brand coincides with the launch of a competitive sports program. “Tyndale has always had a strong campus intramural sports program and now hopes to build on that with the launch of a new Competitive Club Team program,” said Matthew Murray, Community Life Director. “The club team program works as a stepping stone toward varsity-level competition. It provides an avenue for a higher level of play against teams and clubs outside of Tyndale.”
Current competitive teams include Women’s Basketball, Men’s Hockey and Men’s and Women’s Volleyball. As the program grows, it is anticipated that more teams will be added to the roster.
