Rev. Karen Lam (MTS, 2007)
Distinguished Alumni Global Impact Award, 2024
Karen grew up in Hong Kong, immigrated to Canada in 1983, and became a Jesus follower in 1984. She worked on information systems for over 30 years, served as a youth worker at church for 20-plus years, and has been a gospel singer for almost four decades. After graduating from Tyndale in 2007, she remained a tentmaker, offering pastoral care and support wherever needed, until her early retirement from her IT position in 2015. Karen was then led to help establish the Mandarin ministry at her home church, Stouffville Grace Baptist Church, alongside her ongoing ministry with Doulos Gospel Music Ministry. Karen is sensitive and responsive to God’s calling. Besides doing personal evangelism and running evangelistic events locally with Doulos, God has taken her on short-term mission (STM) trips since 1990 to many places in South and Central America, England, China and the United Arab Emirates, where she has testified numerous times to the grace and love of God. Throughout the years, God has grown Karen from just an STM participant to a mobilizer and organizer of STMs for both Doulos and her home church. During the pandemic, God gave Karen the vision of doing online missions, leading her and her church to reach out to people in five South and Central American countries.
