A Global Faith: Lessons from the Global South
A Global Faith: Lessons from the Global South [MISS 0670]
Course Description
As the New York Times (March 13, 2013) announced, ‘New Pope Shifts Church’s Center of Gravity Away From Europe’. THis surprise selection of an Argentine, Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, as the first non-European Pope of the Roman Catholic Church in 600 years highlights the rising significance of the Church of the Global South. The Global South comprising the developing countries of Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean has witnessed an explosion in the growth in Christianity over the last century and now wears the mantle of the new center of gravity of Christian presence in global Christianity. With approximately 600 million Christians (Pew Research Centre, June 2011) in the global South, this course examines the new face of Global Christianity and explores the contributions of the Global South to the Global Christian Faith.
