All users are responsible for renewing their own library materials. We will not renew your library loans for you and we encourage you to renew your loans via:
Renewing materials through WorldCat
Please note: You may not renew materials, if:
All items checked-out from the Education Library should be returned the Education Library circulation desk during regular hours of operation. Checked-out items may also be returned to the drop box outside regular hours of operation.
Please note: course reserves, manipulatives, kits, puppets and posters should be returned to the Education Library circulation desk.
Also note: items check-out from the Education Library should be returned to the Education Library as are items checked-out from the J. William Horsey Library should be returned to the circulation desk at the J. William Horsey Library.
Placing an item on hold
The Tyndale library system will notify you via e-mail once your materials are returned to the library by the original borrower. You will then have 5 business days to collect the document before it will be returned to the collection.
For most overdue items, a $0.50 fine will be levied per item, per day to the patron record. For overdue course reserve items, a $1.00 fine per hour, per item will be charged to the patron record.
Please note: borrowing privileges will be blocked when a patron’s fines reach $14.99.
Also note: Any outstanding fines at the end of the academic year will be forwarded to the Business Office at regular intervals. A $5.00 administrative fee will be added to any outstanding fee that is forwarded to the Business Office.
Users are responsible for the item that they borrow from the library. Should you loose or damage any item that is signed-out under your name, you will be charged the cost of the item (average $60.00) plus a $15.00 administrative fee.
Lost items should be reported to the circulation desk immediately to prevent the accumulation of overdue fines.
All library fines must be paid for by the card-carrying holder at the Education Library circulation desk.
Please note: users may sign up for a maximum of 2 consecutive 1 hour blocks.
All users need to sign-in to the photocopier-scanner before they can start using the machine to photocopy or scan. Please retrieve the password from the Circulation Desk.
All print jobs from the workstations in the Education Library automatically go to the photocopier in the work area. Printing from a laptop is available through the laptops in Classroom 1 and Classroom 2 only. Unfortunately, users cannot print from their personal laptops to the Education Library printer at this current time.
The photocopier-printer in the Education Library also has the ability to scan items and have those items sent to your e-mail. Scanning is free of charge and there are instructions on how to scan items in the blue folder near the photocopier.
Donated materials appropriate for the library collection are welcomed and accepted with the understanding that the Library Director is free to determine the appropriate disposition of these materials. Materials will only be added if they conform to the selection criteria established in the Tyndale Libraries collection development policy; though some leniency may be allowed in interpreting the criteria. It is best for prospective donors to provide a list of items they wish to donate in advance, so that the library is not overwhelmed with items it cannot use.
Donated materials not needed by the library will be offered to other libraries, if they are especially valuable or appropriate for library use (especially for theological libraries in developing countries). Donations not needed by the library may also be put on sale for library users at modest rates and the income generated by the sales will go into the library’s operating budget.
Gift labels are usually placed in materials accepted for the collection. “Gift in Kind” receipts for donated materials are also issued, but must be requested when the donation is made. Receipts can only be issued for items actually added to the library collection. Please note: it is up to the donor to defend any claim made to the Canada Revenue Agency.
For more information, please contact the Library Director, Hugh Rendle

How to obtain a library card:
External members must purchase a library membership card with a barcode from the Tyndale library staff in order to activate borrowing privileges. The membership card is issued for either four months at $30 or one year at $75; or a reduced fee of $40.00 for alumni/ae. The replacement charge for lost/damaged/stolen cards is $3.00. Note: a valid photo I.D. that includes a current address is required when purchasing or renewing a membership card. Membership does not include remote access to online journal databases or ebooks due to licensing restrictions.
Recalls
All borrowed materials are subject to recall. Students and External members will have one week to return recalled library material prior to incurring fines.
Requesting Materials through Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
The library also offers an Interlibrary Loan service to patrons who need to access library materials beyond the library collections, and that are not readily accessible through the academic libraries of the Greater Toronto Area. Extra charges may apply to External members for materials requested through ILL. Patrons may either request ILL forms at the Circulation Desk or place a request through the Interlibrary Loans page.
All borrowed materials are subject to recall.
Online Access
Tyndale alumni should be reminded that while their “MyTyndale” usernames and passwords gain them access to MyTyndale web-mail and web-files, their accounts will not grant them access to the Tyndale Library resources. At this time, our license agreements only permit the use of electronic resources on the part of Tyndale students, teacher candidates, faculty, and staff members.
ATLAS for ALUM
This is a special edition of the ATLA Religion Database for Tyndale alumni only. It includes access to many full text articles. The ATLAS for ALUM program is supported by a generous grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. and Tyndale University College & Seminary. Tyndale alumni may email the Tyndale Alumni office alumni@tyndale.ca to receive their password.
