Public Lectures
Winter 2011
Dr. Paul Copan
Professor and Pledger Family Chair of Philosophy and Ethics, Palm Beach Atlantic Univeristy
On March 25 Professor Copan delivered the lecture, "Slavery and Genocide? A Fresh Look at Two Old Testament Ethical Issues" at Tyndale University College. In this lecture Copan considers arguments from people like Richard Dawkins that suggest the Old Testament depicts God as condoning slavery and genocide (among a host of other morally dubious practices) and offers a response that takes seriously the objection and the relevant Biblical texts. For more development of the material in this lecture see Copan's 2010 book Is God a Moral Monster? Making Sense of the Old Testament God.
